Malaysia a key market for Premier League on ESS

ESPN STAR Sports currently reaches about 4.3 million viewers in Malaysia via the Astro satellite channels, its managing director, Jamie Davis, told Yong Soo Heong of Bernama newsagency. "Currently, we reach 72 percent of people above six years old in Malaysia with cable access, according to an independent survey from AC Nielsen. In real figures, there are about 6.3 million cable viewers in Malaysia of which about 5.9 million are above six years of age." He said the annual cumulative viewership for ESPN's television channels in Malaysia stands at over 276 million households.

Davis said Malaysia also boasted one of the highest out-of-home viewership trends anywhere in the world. "Every weekend during the EPL season, you can wander from coffee shops to open-air food courts to roadside stalls selling 'teh tarik', and you can witness virtually all TVs tuned to the EPL on ESPN and STAR Sports," he said. "Malaysia is a key priority market for ESPN STAR Sports and our acquisition of the Premier League reflects our commitment to providing the very best sports programming to our loyal Malaysian fans," he added.
